Vegetarianism
Posted by admin on April 11th, 2007 filed in Diet Tools & TipsHave you ever seen an overweight vegetarian?
There are a minimal amount of people who are vegetarians that believe they are overweight and in most cases they actually are not. This is because vegetarians nourish their bodies with plenty of fruits and vegetables, staying away from consuming the flesh of any animal.
Typically, the average vegetarian has been motivated to vegetarianism by friends, family members, religious groups, cultural backgrounds or health concerns. Through history vegetarians have grown and today there are several classifications of vegetarians.
Strict vegetarians can be classified as vegetarians, who stay away from dairy products, eggs, honey, wool, leather, silk and down feathers. Anything that involved the death of an animal, strict vegetarians also know as Vegans refrain from.
However, there are some vegetarians who enjoy eggs and dairy products in their normal diet. Studies prove that eggs and dairy products will keep you healthier in the long term. Vegetarian diets occasionally consist of protein including poultry, fish and meat. Protein mostly contains vitamin B, zinc and iron. These nutrients are very important to have in your daily diet.
Lacto vegetarians consume cheeses and dairy products but exclude eggs in their diet. Vegetarians, who want to lower their cholesterol levels, may adapt to lacto vegetarianism because egg yolks have very high amounts of cholesterol. If they are not dieting, lacto-ovo vegetarians, consume dairy products and eggs. Lacto actually means milk and ovo means egg that is where the word comes from.
Semi-vegetarians consume chicken and fish, but stay away from all red meats. Generally, when it comes to diets, all vegetarians do not believe in low carb diets because they think there should be more of a balance. In addition, vegetarians know that their diets typically fail over most other diet because of sustainability, so they often resort back to low carb diets. In a way it is contradictory, but statistics prove it’s true.
Overall, if you are an average person looking for a diet, I highly recommend that you stay away from the vegetarian diet. Most people cannot go from consuming foods within the basic food pyramid to restricting themselves to just fruit and vegetables. This could be bad for the body and would not work well for long term benefits.
